Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons they should trade for Markelle Fultz
By Tony Pesta
3. His stock is low
When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Markelle Fultz, they assumed he would have an instant impact with the team. The college superstar was projected to be a killer playmaker straight from the get-goo. His ability to attack the rim and create looks for his teammates made him the best point guard in the draft.
Then, a series of peculiar events began to take place. It all started when Fultz debuted a new, unorthodox shooting form. It quickly became clear that there was something wrong with his shot. Fultz played in four games and shot just 9-of-27 (33.3 percent) from the field before being sidelined with an injury for a large chunk of the season.
Even after he returned to the court, it was obvious he was dealing with some type of injury to his shoulder. His shooting form went through numerous changes as he struggled to find a working tactic.
To make things worse, Fultz watched as other players from his draft class shined. The man that Fultz was traded for on draft night, Jayson Tatum, had a spectacular season and became a star in the playoffs by averaging 18.5 points per game. All of this contributed to Fultz losing his confidence and added to his woes on the court.
As a result, his trade value should be significantly low for a former No. 1 overall pick. Because of this, the Cleveland Cavaliers may be able to obtain Fultz without giving up any key prospects. If Cleveland is able to trade for Fultz without losing any crucial members of its rebuild, this move is a no-brainer.
