Los Angeles Lakers: Latest rumors on Anthony Davis trade, Khris Middleton and more
Lakers seen as potential landing spot for Anthony Davis
Now before you start screaming in excitement like a giddy schoolgirl, tone it down a notch or five. Anthony Davis isn’t a free agent until 2020 (assuming he declines his 2020-21 player option), and it’s going to take a king’s ransom to pry him away from the New Orleans Pelicans.
However, according to Get More Sports’ Chris Sheridan, the Lakers are seen as one of the potential landing spots for Davis in the “near or distant future.” Other teams that were mentioned include the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers.
Seeing as the Lakers are an ascending team in the Western Conference, though, it’s seems hard to imagine the Pelicans giving them a Brow-sized boost in the competitiveness department.
As Sheridan mentions, they’re only interested in trading Davis to a “middle-of-the-pack or worse” team if it’s within the Western Conference.
Regardless, it’s still a situation worth keeping an eye on.
The Lakers are already set with James in town for at least this year and the two after that. It’s also believed that they could be serious players for Durant next offseason. If that doesn’t work out, though, Magic could turn his attention to signing Davis.
Then again, maybe he targets a trade before Feb. 7’s trade deadline to make the Lakers a legitimate contender now.
The future is full of possibilities for the Lakers. Right now, those possibilities include Davis wearing purple and gold in the not-too-distant future.
