The Detroit Pistons’ offense has struggled out of the gates this year. Even with an improved defense, they need to be much better on offense to win.

The Detroit Pistons are 8-6 after the first month of the season. Their defense has been drastically improved thus far, as they currently rank ninth in defensive rating. However, despite the resurgence of power forward Blake Griffin, they have struggled mightily on the offensive end with the 24th overall offense.

Some of that blame can be the result of injury, but they have to step it up on that end of the floor unless they want to continue their recent regression.

Shooting has been a struggle for this team, which is a surprise based on head coach Dwane Casey’s history with developing shooters. His last Toronto Raptors team was one of the best shooting teams in the NBA last season, after all. The Pistons have to play the Houston Rockets in back-to-back games this week, and if they want to have any hope of winning those games, their offense needs to improve significantly.

Casey has shown the ability to generate better offense over the course of time. While the Pistons aren’t set to contend this year, they do have the ability to make some noise in the Eastern Conference. However, if the offense continues to play at the level it has thus far, they won’t be accomplishing their goals. Here are three keys to improving on that end.
