Memphis Grizzlies: A look at Dillon Brooks’ impact and what’s to come
By Aymin Bakr
Expectations moving forward
Although the likes of guys like Jimmy Butler, Manu Ginobili and Dennis Rodman come along every once in a while, it’s not often that second-rounders turn out to be stars. The expectation isn’t for Dillon Brooks to become the next Butler, but his game was definitely on full display last season and it was far from mediocre.
He posted a career-high 36 points in a game as a rookie while also managing to guard some of the best offensive players in the league on a nightly basis. While Kyle Anderson is here long-term, Brooks proved last season he could play a variety of roles and be effective in all of them, regardless of where he fit in the rotation.
Whether he’s a spot up shooter, go-to scorer, playmaker or a combination of all three, Brooks can play an important role for a variety of different lineups. After what he proved last season, 18 minutes per contest is on the lower side, but it’s understandable considering how many forwards this team has.
While he did perform on an shorthanded team in the middle of a tank, his skill-set is still extremely valuable. Brooks may never be a first- or even second-option scorer on a team, but he’s good at a multitude of different things and has a place in this league.
While it’s unclear what the future holds for this organization, expect to see some great things from Dillon Brooks down the road.
