Lakers a free agency frontrunner for Kevin Durant

This isn’t the first you’ve heard of Kevin Durant potentially joining the Lakers, and it won’t be the last. There’s been an abundance of chatter about a possible pairing of LeBron and KD next offseason. Well guess what? The conversation keeps getting more interesting.

In the last couple of days, there have been more rumors suggesting it could actually happen.

First, ESPN‘s Stephen A. Smith claimed on The Stephen A. Smith Show that the Lakers were one of the two most likely landing spots for Durant if he were to leave the Golden State Warriors this upcoming offseason.

"“I’m hearing the Knicks and the Lakers, with the Lakers having the edge. That’s what I’m hearing. Two weeks ago, I heard the Knicks had the edge. Now, I hear the Lakers have the edge. Let me tell you something, it appears to be one of those two teams which is Kevin Durant’s next destination. But Golden State is telling me: ‘There’s no way in hell we believe he’s leaving. We believe Kevin Durant’s gonna stay.'”"

Then, BetDSI gave the Lakers the best odds to be Durant’s team when the first game of the 2019-20 campaign begins. Although betting odds don’t mean much, it’s clear that people are starting to feed into the idea of KD taking his talents to Los Angeles.

With the recent spat between Durant and Warriors teammate Draymond Green, it almost makes sense for him to desire wearing a different jersey next season. He’s already scratched his championship itch in the Bay Area, and can turn his attention to lining his pockets and playing with friends before calling it a career.

ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst seemed to confirm a couple of days ago that James did text Durant about joining the Lakers, something that had previously been denied. People seem to be ignoring the fact that there’s smoke — and where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
