Los Angeles Lakers: Fallout from Rajon Rondo’s injury
Coach Rondo is here
Rajon Rondo has built a reputation over the past couple of seasons of being a mentor and player-coach for the young players on the team.
Rondo has been one of the smartest players in the NBA during his time in the league and is often heard screaming out opposing teams play calls and everything else in between whether he is on or off the floor. This translates to practice, including the first one since his injury.
Rondo wants to pursue a career in coaching when his playing days are over, and this month off will put him in a position to do be a pseudo coach. He’s already taken the young core under his wing, hosting film sessions with young players Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram.
Rondo teaching and showing them what to look for and certain tendencies he picks up can make a world of difference in them improving their games.
Rondo is often the player closest to the coaching staff on the bench and usually standing yelling at his teammates in a positive way. This team has five other established veteran players in the rotation and three of them are JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley.
Rondo, Tyson Chandler and LeBron James are as stable mentally and physically of an older head trio you’ll find in the NBA and Rondo being inserted into even more of a coaching role means somebody will always be in the ear of the young players rounding out the rotation.
Rajon Rondo’s will be missed on the court, but he makes an impact off the floor as well. His mind is his greatest strength, and now he will be using it all times.
