1. Good shooting

College Collin Sexton really only had one major knock: his shooting. He hit just 33.6 percent of his deep balls in one year at Alabama. Sexton chucked up four per game, often missing three of those. That won’t cut it in the association.

Keen Cavaliers followers had hope entering the season. Sexton received praise for his work ethic. Tales of his tireless shooting sessions began to spread. Maybe he was about to prove skeptics wrong.

Sexton is certainly no Stephen Curry; he’s not even Seth Curry. Still, he’s been good. On just 1.4 attempt from deep, Sexton is hitting 0.7 3-pointers per game. He is 8-for-11 in his last five games. Small sample size, but that is a sizzling 72.7 percent. He’s shot a respectable 47.1 percent during that stretch and 44.0 percent overall. That’s well above Trae Young’s 41.1 percent for the season.

His 92.7 free throw percentage isn’t too shabby as well.

Sexton peppered the Wizards with 24 points in the team’s recent loss. The highlights reflect his ability to comfortably drill mid-range jumpers as teams refuse to hedge on him off picks. Sexton uncoils quickly from the catch-and-shoot position, often open as defenders collapse on players like Jordan Clarkson to leave him free.

As he begins to gain more respect, Sexton will likely draw tighter perimeter coverage. His positive shooting percentages will be tested. Still, it’s good to see him answering the calls of critics, proving that he might be a player to build around.
