The new-look Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 107-100 Wednesday night, and looked jubilant doing it.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are free. The franchise is undefeated since trading away Jimmy Butler, with wins over the Brooklyn Nets and New Orleans Pelicans. New additions Robert Covington and Dario Saric both played as advertised — solid two-way contributors — Wednesday against the Pelicans.

More importantly, the team played hard and happy for one of the few times this season. Monday night’s game against the Nets had the flow of a sewage pipe, as everyone seemed in shock both due to Butler’s inevitable but surprising departure, and Caris LeVert‘s gruesome looking foot injury.

Wednesday night, with both Saric and Covington making their debuts, the team was ready to go from opening tip, playing with great ball movement, defense and effort. Despite the paltry attendance — officially just 11,636 people (60 percent capacity) were there — Minnesotans will return to the team more supportive than ever if the energy and atmosphere of this new team carries over night after night.

These people already love RoCo!

One win, even against a fellow playoff-quality team, does not mean much in the long-term, but it’s safe to say that a new page in Timberwolves history is now underway. Will this new iteration of the Wolves ever lose again? It’s hard to say. 73-9 is technically a possibility.

For now though, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and examine so takeaways from victory No. 6 in this young 2018-19 Minnesota Timberwolves season.
