Los Angeles Lakers: Latest rumors on Carmelo Anthony, KCP trade and more
Lakers among teams eyeing Carmelo Anthony
O’Connor wasn’t done after dropping the Caldwell-Pope nugget mentioned earlier. In fact, he went on to name the teams that could be interested in signing Carmelo Anthony if he and the Houston Rockets decide to part in the near future.
As you’ve probably gathered by now, the Lakers were on his list of potential suitors.
"“I heard three teams that I think could be for Melo. And this could change, he’s still with Houston. I heard New Orleans, Portland and LA Lakers. Those are the three teams I heard.”"
Now a divorce would need to happen before this even became a real conversation, and there’s no guarantee that ends up being the case. With that said, The Athletic‘s Kelly Iko already claimed that Anthony’s days are numbered in Houston. Some believe he has already played his last game in a Rockets jersey.
Even then, would the Lakers signing Anthony make much sense? Not really. We all know about the Carmelo-LeBron connection, but the train stops right there. He’s a poor fit for this team, especially with two scoring power forwards (Kyle Kuzma, Michael Beasley) already on the roster. Anthony is no longer a superstar, and chances are his presence would only hinder the Lakers’ progress.
It was fun imagining Anthony wearing a Lakers jersey a few years back. In 2018, though, it’s clear that signing him is no way to move this franchise forward. Let one of the other interested parties make the mistake of handicapping their lineup by inserting Carmelo into it.
