NBA: The best rebounder of all time from every NBA team
Best rebounder in Dallas Mavericks history: Dirk Nowitzki
If this were a list based solely on rate-based performances, the Tyson Chandler would represent the Dallas Mavericks on this list. After all, it was his efforts on the glass — 10.4 boards per game and 27.0 defensive rebounding percentage, which are still team records — helped the franchise capture their first championship.
If you asked who the best rebounder for the Mavericks is right now, then DeAndre Jordan would be the obvious answer. As of Oct. 30, Jordan is averaging 15.1 boards per game, which would easily set the single-season franchise mark if he says at this pace (considering he averaged 15.2 with the Los Angeles Clippers last year, that seems like a safe bet).
However, my list takes tenure with the team into account and as far as the Mavericks are concerned, one player fits the bill: Dirk Nowitzki.
While the German import has never been known as a dominant rebounder, his lanky, 7-foot frame allowed him to pull in his share of boards. To be exact, Nowitzki has averaged 7.7 rebounds per game over the course of his 21 NBA seasons, all with Dallas.
That consistency, combined with his longevity, allowed Nowitzki to climb to the top of the franchise’s all-time leaderboard for cumulative defensive rebounds (11,331).
When his Hall of Fame career finally comes to a close, most fans will remember all the clutch shots, post moves and that killer turnaround fadeaway jumper. He won’t be remembered as a dominant rebounder, but his place on this list is a testament to his longstanding greatness.
