NBA: The best rebounder of all time from every NBA team
Best rebounder in Sacramento Kings history: DeMarcus Cousins
Since losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2002 Western Conference Finals, the Sacramento Kings have been one of the worst run franchises in the NBA. Since that fateful series, the Kings have had just two winning seasons and only two playoff appearances to their name. Frankly, they have been perpetually rebuilding since 2006.
For a while, All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins represented a small spec of light within the deep fog of losing. Drafted 10th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, Cousins developed into one of the NBA’s elite big men.
He was a beast in the post, was an underrated passer, could hit 3-pointers and could even handle the ball a little bit on the break. Add in that he improved every year while playing for a team that served as the Barry Horowitz to every half-decent NBA team speaks to how good he was.
Even with a refined skill set, Cousins was an absolute bully on the block. This probably explains why he was such an effective rebounder.
As of 2018, Cousins ranks third on the Kings’ all-time offensive rebounds list, second on the defensive rebounds list and sixth on the total rebounds list. In terms of rate stats, he sits at third place on the team’s all-time boards per game leaderboard and is at the top of the defensive and total rebounding percentage standings.
Cousins’ tenure with the Kings was a complicated one, but ultimately he was a player that was respected and embraced by those fans. In the end, he will be remembered for what he did on the court.
