NBA: The best rebounder of all time from every NBA team
Best rebounder in Golden State Warriors history: Wilt Chamberlain
As one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, Wilt Chamberlain excelled at many things. He was a prolific scorer, was a very good passer (he once averaged 8.6 assists per game during a season just to show that he could), and — for the purposes of this piece — was a monster on the boards.
No matter which team he played for — be it some version of the Golden State Warriors or the Philadelphia 76ers — Chamberlain used his 7-foot-1, 275-pound frame to gobble up as many rebounds as possible.
Suffice to say, “Wilt the Stilt” was quite successful, particularly for the Warriors and 76ers. The NBA’s all-time leader in rebounds per game and second all-time leader in total rebounds is also at the top of almost all the Warriors’ rebounding leaderboards.
As of 2018, he ranks second in rebounding and first in rebounds per game. During his time with the franchise that selected him in the 1959 NBA Draft, Chamberlain led the league in rebounding for four consecutive seasons.
He also never averaged fewer than 22.3 boards per game while wearing a Warriors jersey. In fact, he never averaged fewer than 20 until his second season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Even then, he still averaged 18.4 rebounds per night.
Chamberlain will go down as one of the most dominant big men to ever play the game. I mean, what other player was so dominant that the league had to tweak the rules in order to make it harder for him? He was often a man among boys and that showed in the box scores.
