Philadelphia 76ers: Joel Embiid is early NBA MVP favorite
By Larry Mendte
4. Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant won the MVP award with the 2013-14 Oklahoma City Thunder. The small forward led the league in scoring that year with 32 points per game.
Now with the Golden State Warriors, leading the league in scoring is near impossible for Durant, as he must share the ball with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and a team of All-Stars.
Still, Durant is fifth in the NBA with 26.8 points per game. He also grabs 7.3 rebounds and deals 6.4 assists per game.
If Durant stays healthy, he will compete for the MVP award every year and will undoubtedly win another. He is helped by the dominance of the Warriors, unquestionably the best team in the NBA.
Durant’s biggest hurdle is that his statistics not only put him behind Embiid in the early MVP race, but behind a player on his own team.
