The Denver Nuggets kicked off 2018-19 in style, racing to a torrid 7-1 record. Let’s look at Denver’s individual performances.

Denver Nuggets fans expected 2018-19 to be different from past seasons. But to post a 7-1 start, spearheaded largely by strong defense? Who could have predicted this madness?

Because while Denver’s offense looks steady and well-balanced, its defense is turning heads. The Nuggets rank 14th among NBA teams offensively, scoring 112.5 points per game. Defensively, they rank fourth, allowing a stingy 103.6 points.

Say what?

This performance on the stopping end is tough to explain. Kudos especially to Paul Millsap, Gary Harris and head coach Michael Malone. Nikola Jokic also appears to have improved defensively.

Despite the mediocre offensive placement, Denver’s scoring is up from last year’s 110-point average. The NBA’s point total is higher league-wide, but this should level out as the year continues.

Individually, Harris and Jokic look spectacular. Millsap and Jamal Murray are fighting through inconsistent starts, yet each is contributing notably. Monte Morris is a pleasant surprise thus far.
