1. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Last week: 2nd (↑1)

The Dallas Mavericks have looked like geniuses since trading for Luka Doncic in the 2018 NBA Draft. Doncic looks to be on his way to a productive season alongside Dennis Smith Jr. in the backcourt. He’s averaging 19.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for the Mavericks this year and has looked good against some top talent.

The 19-year-old has looked comfortable against some quality teams so far. He posted a career-high 31 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block against the San Antonio Spurs in a 113-108 overtime loss. On Wednesday, he put up 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds against the Los Angeles Lakers in a one-point loss.

With DeAndre Jordan on the interior and a playmaking backcourt, the Mavericks aren’t a team that should be taken lightly this year. They look like they’re a player or two away from becoming a contender but with Doncic and Smith, they’re on the right track.

Doncic is already in good company, joining LeBron James and Kevin Durant as the youngest player to produce at least 30 points and eight rebounds.
