Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 trade proposals for J.R. Smith
By Tony Pesta
1. Toronto Raptors
Through the first few weeks of the NBA season, the Toronto Raptors have been one of the most dominant teams in the entire league. With a 7-1 record, they look ready to finally contend for an NBA championship.
As of now, the Raptors are in the top half of the league for both 3-pointers made and attempted. However, they are in the bottom half of the league in terms of 3-point percentage, shooting just 35.2 percent from deep. In a league where shooting has become the most important factor in the game, it would be helpful for them to improve this aspect of their game.
Adding Kyle Korver and J.R. Smith should do the trick. Smith and Korver would fit nicely in their rotation and be spot-up shooters, ready to light up opponents from deep at a moment’s notice.
The Cavaliers would acquire Norman Powell, C.J. Miles and Malachi Richardson. Powell is the most intriguing asset of this bunch. The 25-year-old shooting guard has shown great promise as a versatile scorer and capable defender.
Meanwhile, Miles would once again become a Cavalier and help add extra offense while Richardson would add to our growing stockpile of young prospects.
Overall, I think both teams would get what they are looking for in this trade. Toronto gives up a few assets in order to strengthen its biggest weakness, while, the Cavaliers obtain a few young assets and a good veteran scorer.
