The verdict: MVP is possible

Apologies for the noncommittal answer, but it’s crazy to claim Curry will surely win MVP. No one can say that, especially in light of the Warriors’ talented roster. But the “no way, no how” approach? This would also be criminal.

Curry is playing at an insane level. Be wary of high fives; his hot shooting hand may scald you. If Steph continues this pace, he just may win MVP, star-studded squad and all.

Other candidates have a natural advantage. James Harden does whatever he wishes in the Houston Rockets’ — let’s face it — undisciplined, heave-ho offense. Russell Westbrook captains the Oklahoma City Thunder, while Paul George and others sit politely, along for the ride. Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo are going to put up insane numbers on improved and fun teams.

It’s hard not to favor one or more of those four in the early MVP battle, not because they are better players. Some teams are simply more conducive to putting up absurd individual numbers, but notice these squads and their lack of recent championships.
