What will it take to win MVP?

Steph has scored with ease so far. His 34.6 points per game are helpful to Golden State’s offensive efforts. Yet, Curry also shoots a high percentage from all over the court. Per Basketball Reference, he is nailing 58.8 percent of his looks from 3-10 feet. He’s converting 57.1 percent at the rim, and is 6-for-7 from long 2-point range (16 feet to the 3-point arc).

Steph must continue this kind of strong play to remain in the MVP race. The good news — this is arguably the best start of his career. All indications show him at 100 percent healthy and set to dominate.

But Curry faces another complicated issue. Surrounded by talented scorers, Steph doesn’t get the same shot volume as other superstars. Guys like Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are good teammates, but they must receive their share of shots. Just picture when DeMarcus Cousins is added to the mix.

One way or the other, this creates a dilemma. Curry’s scoring volume will be lower than its potential due to his surrounding personnel.

In light of this, Steph must shoot with efficiency. However, he must also demand the ball. Curry occasionally needs an I’m-the-best-player, and-it’s-my-time attitude. DeMarcus Cousins’ rental doesn’t justify further cramping Steph’s style.
