Cleveland Cavaliers: 6 potential trades to save their season
By Tony Pesta
Trade No. 4
This trade would see two Cleveland Cavaliers players being dispersed in return for Hassan Whiteside of the Miami Heat. Whiteside has proven to be a great shot-blocker and is exactly what the Cavaliers need on the defensive end.
For his career, Whiteside averages 11.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. His presence in the paint is always felt and he is capable of having a huge impact on the game. Unfortunately, there have been questions about his work ethic and attitude. Whiteside has been involved in multiple issues with the Heat, including one instance in which he publicly criticized his teammates.
Still, Whiteside is a risk that the Cavaliers might have to take. The upside to adding him is high enough to justify the potential problems he could bring. Worst-case scenario, the Cavaliers continue to struggle and end up with a high draft pick.
As for the Miami Heat, they would receive Tristan Thompson and Rodney Hood. Thompson would effectively be the replacement for Whiteside, while Hood would add some more offensive firepower to this upcoming team. There is no doubt in my mind that the Heat would find a way to turn these two pieces into valuable assets.
One thing to note is that Hood is unable to be traded until Dec. 15. Therefore, this potential trade will not be an option until further into the season.
