Cleveland Cavaliers: 6 potential trades to save their season
By Tony Pesta
Trade No. 6
A common theme throughout all of these trades will be improving the Cleveland Cavaliers’ defense. While the offense hasn’t been great either, the Cavs have been one of the worst defensive team in the entire league, ranking 28th in defensive rating.
Opposing teams have found no trouble getting their shooters open looks against the Cavaliers. Because of this, the Cavs are giving up the second-most 3-pointers in the NBA. On average, the Cavaliers allow 14.2 3-pointers a game. It is clear they need an upgrade to their perimeter defense.
Perhaps trading George Hill for DeMarre Carroll of the Brooklyn Nets could help them buff up their defense. Carroll is a player who became known for his defensive capabilities earlier in his career. He has the physical tools to guard multiple positions, making him an ideal piece to any teams rotation.
Currently, Carroll is sidelined with an ankle injury and there is no timetable for his return. However, pulling off this trade would almost certainly improve the Cavs defense. The addition of Carroll would help make them a more well-rounded team.
However, the Nets are already overflowing with guards, and may prefer to just keep Carroll and his expiring contract instead.
