With New York Knicks rookie Kevin Knox suffering an ankle injury, the team will need these three players to step up in his absence.

Injuries have really hurt the New York Knicks in the early going of the 2018-19 season. Superstar Kristaps Porzingis still remains without a timetable as he recovers from ACL surgery.

In addition, fellow veterans Courtney Lee and Emmanuel Mudiay have yet to get on the court. Lee is dealing with a neck injury, while Mudiay battles an ankle ailment. Now, the Knicks have added another player to the injury report.

Promising rookie and 2018 first round pick Kevin Knox will now be joining them on the sidelines. Knox turned his ankle early in the third game of the season against the Boston Celtics. It was such a severe ankle sprain that he was unable to shoot his free throws and was helped to the locker room by teammates.

Ankle sprains can be a difficult injury to handle. There are varying degrees and varieties of ankle sprains. Some require a longer layoff than others. Luckily for Knox and the organization, he seems to have come away relatively lucky with his diagnosis.

X-rays were negative on the ankle, which is encouraging.

However, Knox will still spend some time on the sidelines. According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, Knox should only be out for 2-4 weeks.

While it is disappointing that an injury was suffered this early in the season, that timetable is an encouraging one. However, with so many other injuries already occurring, head coach David Fizdale will have to adjust his rotation once again.

Who will Fizdale turn to without the team’s prized rookie in the lineup? These three players will receive added opportunity during Knox’s absence and will need to step up during the next few weeks.
