Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 things that need to improve
By Tony Pesta
2. Collin Sexton
The rookie, Collin Sexton, did not have his ideal NBA debut. While he had a few shining moments, his overall performance was not very good. In 18 minutes of playing time, he scored just nine points on 2-of-7 shooting while committing four turnovers and four fouls.
It was clear that Sexton has a lot to learn in this league. His scrappiness on defense has been the most notable thing about him. However, his naive decision-making led to veteran players forcing him into foul trouble.
This isn’t anything to be too worried about. As the season goes on, Sexton will adjust and grow as a player. His defensive skill-set is still valuable and the foundations for him to become elite on that end of the floor are present.
Another thing that seemed off with Sexton was his ability to score. He was rejected at the rim multiple times and his jump shot wasn’t falling. Still, his tenacity to attack the paint with no fear is something that will eventually reward him as he earns status and begins to draw foul calls.
