1. The new dynamic duo

Kyle Lowry and Kawhi Leonard put on a clinic against the Cavaliers, with both scoring over 20 points and contributing in multiple categories.

Leonard wasn’t the only player to make his Raptors debut. Danny Green contributed 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks. The two of them were plusses on the floor, +13 and +15, respectively.

Green played like his career had been revitalized, aggressive on defense creating multiple turnovers, great on-ball defense, so-so switch defending, and great off-ball movement. This underrated addition to the Raptors will prove to be more vital than not over the course of the season.

As good as Green was, it was the longest-tenured Raptor currently on the squad who shone brighter than all the stars on the floor. Lowry’s efficient shooting with the addition of his sacrificing style of play was in full effect. The league leader last year in charges (37) wasted no time getting the call for him during the contest. Another category Lowry lead in last year was pull-up jumpers from beyond the arc in transition, and oh boy was that on display.

The former All-NBA selections showed how formidable the two of them will be on the court, combining for 51 points. If last night was any indication, these two are going to be in sync all season:

They say great basketball minds think alike. This recipe of All-Stars with the development of the Raptors’ young core gives fans a lot to be excited for rest of the season. Even with the amazing play from Lowry, it was Leonard who took the “player of the night” honors.

Leonard was everything as advertised despite some rust. He took some bad look shots on isolation drive, but was relentless in making sure his team got the win. If Kawhi posted a 24-13-2 line despite his three turnovers on a rusty night, imagine what he’ll be capable when he’s back in a rhythm. Coming off a season only playing nine games, Leonard put in 37 minutes of work for the win Wednesday night, essentially silencing the doubters of his health (for now).

The buzz around the city is electrifying and if Wednesday night’s energy was any indication, this team’s excitement isn’t going to dwindle anytime soon.
