In a stunning road win, the New Orleans Pelicans kicked off their 2018-19 NBA season on the right foot. Here are three takeaways from their season opener.

The New Orleans Pelicans kicked off the 2018-19 season with a commanding victory over the Houston Rockets, 131-112, Wednesday evening at the Toyota Center.

With the win, the Pelicans won their first season opener since the 2014-15 season when they defeated the Orlando Magic, 101-84.

With so many changes to the landscape and the dynamics of the NBA — particularly the Western Conference — after LeBron James switched forces to become a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and every team in the conference configured deals over the summer to find a way to dethrone the Golden State Warriors, the Pelicans’ win over the runner-up to the Warriors is not a bad way to begin what will be a very tough season in the wild West.

Following the Pelicans’ opening night performance, here are three takeaways from their 2018-19 debut.
