3. Is Kris Dunn the Chicago Bulls’ point guard of the future?

Kris Dunn has had an uneven NBA career thus far. After suffering through a wasted rookie year under Tom Thibodeau with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the third-year guard started to come alive in his first year in Chicago.

Last season, the 6’4″ point guard averaged 13.4 points and 6.0 assists per game, showing why he was worthy of being a lottery selection. Dunn even showed his ability to be the closer in tight games and was able to run Fred Hoiberg‘s pace-and-space offense. The team really struggled when the former Providence star was out of the lineup with injuries.

Entering the 2018-19 season, the question about Dunn is no longer whether he was a lottery bust. The debate is now regarding how high his ceiling is and whether he can lead the Bulls to the playoffs. As the floor general for the offense, Dunn’s development will be predicated upon the success of his teammates and how he’s getting them involved in the offense.

As last season was winding down, Hoiberg called on his point guard to take charge of the team. With more offensive weapons at his disposal, Dunn needs to take his game to the next level. The reality is, while this is still a rebuilding team, the Bulls will only be as good as Kris Dunn’s development allows them to be.
