Though he’s starting the season as a reserve for the Atlanta Hawks, Kevin Huerter still has a chance to accomplish several tasks to make his rookie season a successful one.
With the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks took Kevin Huerter, a sharpshooting guard from the University of Maryland. With Atlanta moving into a rebuilding phase, the Hawks selected a high-upside shooter with size and moderate upside.
In a league where teams are looking for tall, athletic players who can space the floor, Huerter saw his stock rise as he declared for the 2018 NBA Draft after impressing with his array of shooting. Acquiring the pick for Huerter from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Hawks cashed in and made him their theoretical shooting guard of the future.
Last season, the Atlanta Hawks finished seventh in the league in 3-point attempts per game and continued to launch shots from beyond the arc for much of this preseason. For the start of his career, this will be Huerter’s carrying tool — someone who can come in, operate and run off of screens and nail open shots.
However, as he develops and the roster continues to go through change, his game will have to evolve to remain a constant in Atlanta’s lineup. Here are five goals for Huerter to work on to make his 2018-19 season a successful one.
