Dwight Howard was one of the key acquisitions for the Washington Wizards this past offseason. A successful season could mean for a brighter future ahead.

It’s been quite the interesting career for Washington Wizards big man Dwight Howard. The eight-time All-Star, five-time All-Defensive selection and three-time Defensive Player of the Year hasn’t spent more than one season on his past two squads.

He’s played just one season for the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets since being traded by the Orlando Magic back in 2012. With Orlando, Howard made five playoff appearances across eight seasons. He made five playoff appearances with three different teams since then.

It’s winning time in Howard’s career. As he approaches his 33rd birthday in December, his approach to free agency was more about fit than turning around an organization. The Wizards’ biggest need in the rotation was at center after trading Marcin Gortat to the Los Angeles Clippers and ultimately, Howard fell in their lap when his contract was bought out by the Brooklyn Nets.

A backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal can rejuvenate Howard’s career. As one of the best backcourts in the league, Howard has an opportunity to really open up the floor for them and then some. If this season can be a successful one, it could be the beginning of a short-term fix for the Wizards organization. Here’s a look at three goals for Dwight Howard in 2018-19.
