Jerian Grant: Can he stick?

For backup point guard Jerian Grant, he is not likely to get many more opportunities in the league if it doesn’t work out for him in Orlando. We’ve already touched on how he should be hoping to push Augustin for that starting role, but carving out any sort of position in Orlando should be the goal.

In some ways, this is the perfect landing spot for him to try and build his reputation. As a long guard with great defensive instincts, he has been paired with a head coach in Clifford and like-minded players like Birch, Isaac, Bamba and Jonathon Simmons. Coming off the bench, he should see time on the court with Birch and Simmons in particular.

By the time this season ends, Grant will have made less than $8 million throughout his four-year career. Few factors motivate players like money, and rightly so. Grant will be looking to put himself in the shop window to either get paid in Orlando or somewhere else.

The one thing that may work against Grant being a fit in Orlando is if the team hits the lottery again. Drafting a young point guard would make sense, as would having Augustin backing him up. That could mean Grant being left out in the cold, again. It is a big year for him.
