3. Luka Doncic is named Rookie of the Year

Ignoring the first exhibition game against the Beijing Ducks, Luka Doncic has shown why he was drafted. His ability to shoot, pass, and rebound are all present. One of the biggest knocks on Doncic, his defense, has been on display as well, with him averaging 2.0 steals per game.

He closed out the preseason with an 18-point, four-assist game against the Charlotte Hornets and looks ready to make an impact. He shown flashiness when driving to the rim, creating separation for a 3-pointer, or even when throwing alley-oops to Dennis Smith Jr.

His confidence is clearly evident as well, which is comforting considering how last year’s No. 1 overall pick nearly derailed his career while trying to change his jump shot.

Even with others like Deandre Ayton, Collin Sexton and Kevin Knox being able to put up bigger stats, what ultimately separates Doncic is the situation he’s entering. He has more or just as much talent as other rookies, and will have the best opportunity to help the Mavericks win more games than in 2017-18.
