3. Frank Kaminsky is the odd man out

Before training camp, coach Borrego made it known that Frank Kaminsky would be playing more minutes at center than at power forward, where he had gotten accustomed to playing under former coach Steve Clifford.

In five preseason games, Kaminsky played 70 minutes. In the second-to-last preseason game, he only got on the court in the fourth quarter of the game. With a move to center, Kaminsky was automatically put behind Cody Zeller, and Willy Hernangomez seems to have taken the backup role.

Marvin Williams will likely hold down the fort at the 4 as the starter. If preseason is any indication, Miles Bridges could get a lot of minutes at the same spot if Borrego wants to take advantage of his diverse skills.

Kaminsky’s 7’0″ frame and skills as a perimeter shooter will give him opportunities, but those opportunities may be dwindling as he seems to be the third option at center and power forward.

Others that could impact Frank the Tank’s playing time are Bismack Biyombo or Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Biyombo is currently the team’s second-highest paid player and can only play at center. MKG may not be a starter, but slotting him at the 4 occasionally could be necessary if Borrego needs to get him on the court, pushing Kaminsky to no man’s land.
