1. The Wizards will finish as a top-three team in the East

The Washington Wizards are semi-healthy as their season opener with the Miami Heat approaches on Thursday night. The lone player out with a significant injury is big man Dwight Howard, but for the most part, the young core is intact.

The Wizards took a step back last season, but since making changes in the frontcourt and backcourt, they look primed to have a solid year. John Wall and Bradley Beal will get their points, but it’s the expectations for their supporting cast that has them thinking more than just a playoff berth.

It’s hard not to predict the Wizards finishing as a top-three team in the East. They came close during the 2016-17 season and this roster has a similar feel, which should give fans a reason to be excited. It’s been a while since the team has had balance throughout the roster. Even with Dwight Howard out for the time being, Washington is geared up to play a competitive brand of basketball — something fans weren’t too optimistic about last year.

In a matter of one offseason, Washington has gone from searching for depth to having too much depth. Forwards Devin Robinson and Troy Brown Jr. will be jockeying for playing time while Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre are expected to have breakout seasons.

With no LeBron James in the East and all eyes on other teams like Boston and Philadelphia, look for the Washington Wizards to play with a chip on their shoulder.
