The Washington Wizards have a big opportunity on their hands in 2018-19. Here’s a look at five predictions for the upcoming season.

The expectations couldn’t be any better for the Washington Wizards. All eyes seem to be on the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference to battle for the top position. In the annual NBA GM survey, 90 percent of general managers picked the Celtics to win the East, while the other 10 percent chose Toronto.

In the same survey, 33 percent chose the Sixers to finish second atop the conference. The Wizards, on the other hand, were picked, at best, to finish fourth, with seven percent support. Three percent of GMs did select Washington to finish second, and they could be onto something.

Big man Dwight Howard has yet to dress in uniform since suffering a setback in his rehab on Oct. 6, but it hasn’t deterred the Wizards from moving forward. They finished eighth in the conference last season, battling injuries among other things in the rotation. Since then, they’ve made moves for Austin Rivers, drafted Troy Brown Jr. and signed veteran forward Jeff Green.

Depth shouldn’t be an issue this upcoming season, giving the Washington Wizards a nice formula for team success. John Wall and Bradley Beal will need to do their thing, but they’ll need help from the supporting cast. Here’s a look at five predictions for the Wizards in 2018-19.
