1. John Wall will be in the running for MVP

John Wall may be ready to turn a corner in the 2018-19 season. His 2017-18 season was cut short and in turn, he picked up on a few things to improve his game entering this year. Wall has All-Rookie, All-NBA and All-Defensive honors under his belt entering his ninth season in the NBA; now his focus is on the Most Valuable Player award.

After earning All-NBA Third Team honors in 2016-17, Wall didn’t earn any accolades to top off his performance just two seasons ago. He still put up 19.4 points, 9.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, but appeared in just 41 contests.

The Wizards went 23-18 with him in the lineup and 20-21 without him last year. Some of that is on the team, but some of it is also on Wall. He just wasn’t himself all season long and it showed when he missed time early in the season. He ended up missing an extended amount of time twice, throwing off any type of rhythm with his team in the process.

This season, though, Wall looks to silence his critics. To do that, he’ll need to keep himself in the MVP conversation. In the past, he’s been criticized for his relationship with Bradley Beal, but they’ve emerged as one of the best backcourts in the league. Winning the East is enough of a tall order, but if they stay atop the conference standings, look for Wall to get some of that credit.
