Toronto Raptors: 5 reasons to be excited for 2018-19 NBA season
2. Kawhi Leonard, best in the East
Laugh aside, Kawhi Leonard will be the most enjoyable player to watch this season in a Raptors uniform.
When healthy, Leonard is a top-three player in the world. He is the favorite to be the best player in the Eastern Conference with LeBron James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Los Angeles Lakers. Kawhi has little competition for best in the East with so many of the NBA’s top stars in the West. His main competition comes in the form of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyrie Irving, John Wall, Joel Embiid, and/or Blake Griffin.
None of those players is as decorated as the 27-year-old Leonard, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the only competition he has this year for best player in the East is the 23-year-old Greek Freak. With that being said, this is under the assumption Kawhi Leonard is 100 percent healthy and can produce like he last did in the 2016-17 NBA season.
Early signs show so far, so good. Leonard can do things no other player who has donned a Raptors uniform can do before. With all due respect to Vince Carter, DeMar DeRozan and Tracy McGrady, Kawhi Leonard may very well be the best Toronto Raptor of all time, even if it is for only one season. Time to enjoy having such a top talented stud joining the team.
Just in case you forget…
Kawhi Leonard is a Raptor.
