3. Integrate Boogie

Under odd circumstances, the Warriors added yet another superstar. In a summer of huge contracts, DeMarcus Cousins inked with Golden State for the taxpayer’s mid-level exception. Hurt by a lack of inquiries, Boogie dished cold revenge on the league with this shocking deal. Don’t ask why, Dubs fans, just say thank you.

Ideally, this acquisition fills Golden State’s biggest weakness with an interior presence on both ends. Cousins is an undeniable talent at a minimal cost. If he fits in, the Warriors are heavily favored to three-peat. However, if his personality resembles his Sacramento Kings days, the signing will be regrettable.

More from Golden State Warriors

Integrating Boogie is largely Steph’s responsibility. As Golden State’s leader and original superstar, Curry is the alpha. Much is at stake regarding Cousins. If Boogie works out, Golden State is nearly a shoo-in for the third straight title. If he causes trouble, the Warriors’ winning utopia might crumble.

The aftereffects in that scenario could be grave. KD could very well bolt in free agency. Boogie would be gone too, of course. And if Klay Thompson becomes unhappy with his again-reduced role? He may also consider elsewhere, contrary to all the comments he’s made about wanting to stay in the Bay Area.

Golden State could have a fleeing roster, while the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers improve for 2019-20. A crashed Cousins experiment could kick off these unpleasant changes, or derail a championship run so integrating him for this one-year trial run is crucial.

The Warriors have experienced almost zero chemistry issues to date. However, no problem players have joined…until now.
