The Eastern Conference is weaker than ever but the New York Knicks still might not have what it takes to make the 2019 NBA Playoffs.

The New York Knicks are set for their 2018-19 campaign to begin with their star Kristaps Porzingis sidelined after a torn ACL and no timetable set for his return.

In the summer of 2018, LeBron James decided to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers in order to join a Western Conference team, meaning the Cavs, who were more than certain to make the playoffs, are now a borderline playoff team.

The Knicks seem to have a pretty appealing roster going forward. With young guys like Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson surrounding the Latvian power forward, big things are expected from this squad in the following years.

Odds Shark ranked the Knicks as the second-worst team in the East according to projected win totals, tied with the Chicago Bulls. This means that they are projected to be nowhere near that 8-seed during the regular season.

Even though odds and projections don’t affect what happens on the court, they are accurate more often than not. Here are three reasons why the New York Knicks might not have what it takes to make the playoffs this season.
