Cleveland Cavaliers: 2018-19 NBA season preview
By Tony Pesta
Best-case scenario
In the best-case scenario for the Cleveland Cavaliers, they will see three different things happen.
First, the team watches as its young prospects develop into blooming stars. Collin Sexton has a phenomenal season and wins Rookie of the Year. Cedi Osman, Larry Nance Jr. and Rodney Hood all make jumps in their game and play above expectations.
Next, Kevin Love returns to superstar status. He thrives as a leader and proves himself as one of the best players in the East. His presence helps the other members of the roster improve their play.
Lastly, the Cleveland Cavaliers will manage to make it to the NBA Playoffs. They sneak in somewhere between the 6-8 seed and are competitive. They can use this momentum to help carry them into the next season and continue the rebuilding process.
Worst-case scenario
In this case, all three of the things previously mentioned all go down horribly.
Sexton has a subpar year and doesn’t show any promise. Osman and the rest of the supporting cast struggle to be effective on the team. This would likely result in a few trades being made at some point in the season.
Love crumbles under the pressure of leading a team and has his worst statistical season. He fails to play at an elite level and the entire team suffers.
The Cavs fail to make the playoffs, but their record isn’t bad enough to warrant a high draft pick and thus they fall into the middle of the draft order, resulting in yet another season of mediocrity.
