3. Bench depth

The Wizards’ bench has been a project for the past few seasons. They had Bojan Bogdanovic during the 2016-17 season, but he left in free agency during the 2017 offseason. Last season, their spark off the bench was Mike Scott. Scott left this past offseason in free agency to the Los Angeles Clippers. Although Scott departed, bench depth shouldn’t be an issue after acquiring Jeff Green and Austin Rivers.

The Wizards don’t have the depth of unproven players this upcoming season, either. Entering the upcoming season, they’ve got veteran bench depth with proven scorers for once. Forward Jeff Green has been reunited with his old head coach Scott Brooks and so far, the returns are positive. Green put up 15 points on five 3-pointers in the Wizards’ 121-114 preseason victory over the Miami Heat last Friday. He is only on a one-year deal, but it could end up being a match made in heaven for the future, even if it’s only for the short-term.

Rivers is also on an expiring deal for the upcoming season, but his addition gives the Wizards strong backcourt depth. Rivers averaged a career-high 15.1 points and 4.0 assists per game with the Clippers in 2017-18. With more scoring options and opportunities, those numbers could go up this season.

Tomas Satoransky is another guard in the backcourt due to make waves as well. With Rivers on the ball, Satoransky can show off his catch-and-shoot ability and roam the second unit with Kelly Oubre Jr. The reserves for the Washington Wizards are quite a stacked group for the upcoming season. It’s hard to see them not shouldering the load in 2018-19 and helping the Wizards make the playoffs in the process.
