4. Develop the young guns

Another important thing to look for this season will be the development of Jonathan Isaac and Mohamed Bamba as well as second/third unit guys like Isaiah Briscoe, Wesley Iwundu, Khem Birch and rookie Melvin Frazier Jr.

With Isaac and Bamba in particular, the Magic faithful are looking to these two as the future. While Isaac had an injury-plagued rookie season, all early signs point to him becoming a potential two-way force moving forward. Look for him to show impressive strides in his development this season if he can stay healthy (which already looks like it could be a problem).

Bamba played well in his preseason debut, showcasing an improved shot, quick feet and an ability to finish inside. While Bamba did alleviate some anxiety for some Magic fans with this first appearance, he still has question marks going into the season.

First off, how will Clifford integrate him into the lineup? Will he strictly be a backup all year or will he push Nikola Vucevic for starter’s minutes? Will his shot continue to excel, or will he go cold and be forced to work inside more? Will he able to last 82 games given his skinny frame and lanky build? These questions need to be answered as the season goes on. His development this year will be a huge storyline for Orlando.

For the other guys, showcasing their skills with the various bench units Orlando will most likely roll out will be important. Briscoe looked great in the preseason opener. Iwundu is a defensive stud with a seven-foot wingspan and if he can develop a consistent jump shot, he’ll be dangerous. Birch is a defense-first big who can score inside, and Frazier is another long defensive asset. If he can continue to develop his all-around game, he could be a weapon as well.

Given the low likelihood of a deep playoff run, developing the young players on this Magic roster is imperative.
