Storyline 1: Dwyane Wade’s farewell tour

After leaving Heat fans on the edge of their seats all summer, franchise icon Dwyane Wade announced in a 10-minute video that he would be returning for one final season. Prior to his decision, even the media seemed to be without a consensus on his true desire. Wade himself was reportedly leaning toward retirement at times, until a late push from coach Erik Spoelstra helped him make up his mind.

What can Heat fans expect from Wade’s return? He has indicated on several occasions that he does not want a retirement tour, a la Kobe Bryant. It may be difficult for Wade to avoid that, however. While he may trail Bryant in brand recognition, he is certainly beloved across the league and among other fanbases.

Last season may have reminded some of how his game has declined, as it does in all aging players. But it was abundantly clear that he is still capable of moments of greatness. Fans should expect shades of his brilliance popping up throughout the season–like he showed in Game 2 of the Heat’s series against Philadelphia.

Strap in for a fun (and emotional), ride Heat fans.
