Miami Heat: 2018-19 NBA season preview

After an average regular season, the Miami Heat swiftly exited the first round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs. How can they build upon last season in 2018-19?

A 44-38 record and the 6-seed in Eastern Conference might leave many organizations and fanbases content.

The Miami Heat, however, pride themselves on demanding and expecting more. So it was worth asking what the Heat could do to elevate their place in the Eastern Conference hierarchy, following a 4-1 defeat to the Philadephia 76ers. Unfortunately, a restrictive cap situation hindered their ability to make significant signings in the offseason.

The Heat did not select a player in the 2018 NBA Draft, having owed their first-rounder to the Phoenix Suns (stemming from the Goran Dragic trade). Their business this summer primarily included re-signing veteran sharpshooter Wayne Ellington, as well as bringing back franchise legends Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem.

Even so, the 2018-19 season brings an abundance of important storylines. What will Dwyane Wade’s final season bring us? Can Hassan Whiteside turn it around? Will Miami’s young players take leaps?
