3. Jerian Grant

In what will be his first season with the team, Jerian Grant finds himself in a position where he is a part of arguably the worst rotation of point guards in the league. While this is not where the Magic want to be, on a personal level it could suit him well.

As it stands, veteran D.J. Augustin looks to be the starting point guard. However, Grant is but a few solid displays away from ousting his teammate, which isn’t something he would have much chance of doing elsewhere.

This opportunity to try and become the starting floor general for an organization that is, in theory at least, on the up-and-up is one he should be looking to take with both hands. Another aspect of this situation that works well for Grant is where he has come from.

It is not often that a player on their third team in four years gets not only a fresh start on a young team, but the possibility of becoming an important piece to their growth. That is why Grant intrigues so much.

It all looks set up for him to seize his chance and, if nothing more, become the undisputed backup to Augustin (although fellow addition Isaiah Briscoe may have something to say about that).

If Grant can play at a high level right away, he should be able to take over from the 30-year-old Augustin. The only red flag is two teams have already decided two years into a three-year career that he is worth moving on from.

Even that represents intrigue, however, and if the Magic do return to the lottery, it is highly likely they’ll take a young guard to pair with what they’ve got going on. Like Iwundu, there isn’t much expectation around Grant, but he is surely someone to watch.
