The case for Klay Thompson

Oh…hey, buddy! Who would guess Steph’s “sidekick” or “backcourt mate” would make this list? Titles aside, however, Klay Thompson belongs in nobody’s shadow. The numbers prove it.

As it turns out, Steph’s best competition may come internally. Last year, Klay connected on a ridiculous 44.0 percent from 3. He also displayed volume, netting 3.1 treys per game. Thompson shoots a career 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. He also averages 2.9 3-pointers per game over his seven seasons. In just seven seasons, he’s climbed all the way to 24th on the NBA’s all-time 3-point list.

Although often overshadowed, Klay produces historical numbers of his own. Thompson reached the 3.5 mark for volume in 2015-16. And last year’s long-ball percentage (44.0 percent) is no joke. Klay is quietly among the NBA’s greatest shooters ever. He’s near the top of this list, actually.

Nonetheless, Steph posts better numbers than Klay. Curry leads Thompson in career volume, percentage, last year’s volume, single-season best volume and single-season best percentage. These two make one heck of a backcourt, however.
