Atlanta Hawks: 2018-19 NBA season preview
Storyline 3: Experience
Atlanta currently has an awkward mix of experience on the roster. On one hand, they brought in three first-round rookies with no more experience than the Summer League. On the other hand, Vince Carter has signed on for his 21st season in the league.
There are trade rumors flying everywhere about Kent Bazemore and Dewayne Dedmon. Those two are some of the most experienced guys on the roster. They would be moved for draft picks and raw young talent.
Experience is an underrated aspect in professional sports. It is so tough for a team who has never been on the big stage before to go through everybody else who has. That was one of the knocks against the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars when they went up against the New England Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship game.
These guys are going to have to grow up fast because they can and will be thrown into the fire. There is no excuse for them not to be. The rookies will be exposed. Their confidence will falter. It is up to the veterans to pick them back up and teach them how it’s done.
That is why Vince Carter is here in Atlanta.
