Storyline 1: Development of the youngsters

Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Taurean Waller-Prince, John Collins and Omari Spellman.

The Hawks have high hopes and high expectations for these five players going into the season. These players aren’t expected to reach their highest potential this season or even next but they are expected to make great strides forward in their development. Prince, going into his third year, along with second-year man John Collins, will both be taking on significantly larger roles with them being two of the most talented guys on the roster.

One move that sort of flew under the radar was the acquisition of Vince Carter. Carter, coming up on his 21st season in the NBA, is going to be so valuable for his mentorship of these young Hawks. He is not likely to play a massive role every night but he will provide leadership and a spark coming off the bench.

If Trae Young’s shot creation transfers over to the NBA, then his potential will skyrocket and make the rest of the guys around him even better as a result. Look for him to develop some chemistry with John Collins as the season goes along and they play more minutes together.
