3. Isaiah Thomas

Despite being the main free agency addition of the Nuggets’ offseason, Isaiah Thomas is on the trade radar this season. Thomas was a part of two separate trades last year, first being traded from the Boston Celtics to the Cleveland Cavaliers, then from the Cavs to the Los Angeles Lakers.

This offseason, the Nuggets chose to make the addition of Thomas at the league minimum in free agency, a typical low-risk, high-reward move for an NBA veteran.

With his contract expiring at the end of this season, at a lowly $2 million, Thomas could be moved once again at the trade deadline depending on how the season goes. With a pair of starting-caliber guards already on the roster in Jamal Murray and Gary Harris, the Nuggets have no use for Thomas outside of a sixth man role.

A trade could come if the signing proves to be a lousy one for the team. As a Cavalier, Thomas was rumored to be a problem in the locker room, an issue the Nuggets would quickly look to resolve given their young nucleus.

If another team sees Thomas as more than a reserve, the Nuggets could pounce. After dealing multiple picks in their two offseason trades to clear salary, the team could choose to recuperate some of its assets by trading Thomas, though his likely role will be a backup point guard and mentor for Murray.
