3. Not on the destination list
Let’s not complicate this. Jimmy Butler doesn’t want to be a Cavalier, so why pursue him?
Butler published a wish list of NBA teams he would like to play for. It includes, in no particular order: not Cleveland, the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers and definitely not Cleveland. Now it appears the Miami Heat are part of the group.
Yet, ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported the Cavaliers are interested in acquiring the four-time All-Star. The Cavs’ front office needs to have some respect for themselves.
ESPN Sources: Another team pursuing a Jimmy Butler trade with Minnesota: Cleveland. Cavs owner Dan Gilbert was seen talking privately with Glen Taylor at NBA Board of Governors meeting on Friday. Both owners played a part in negotiating the Love-Wiggins deal.

It’s like the guy who chases the girl that’s obviously not into him. Yes, she’ll let him buy her lunch or maybe even take her out for a drink. But she’s just trying to get a free meal, while the men she actually digs are blowing up her phone. The guy needs to cut his losses and run.
Butler just isn’t into Cleveland. There are plenty of fish in the sea and one of those fish is Collin Sexton. Cleveland would likely have to give its rookie point guard in a trade to acquire Butler.

And the Cavs are probably better off investing in a 19-year-old stud rather than a 29-year-old workhorse with Tom Thibodeau miles. Cavs fans may feel slighted by Butler after missing the list. It’s probably for the better.
