It’s not often that a second round draft pick has a chance to earn big minutes right away. Here are three goals for Elie Okobo in his rookie year with the Phoenix Suns.

Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges are garnering all the hype from the Phoenix Suns‘ haul in the 2018 NBA Draft, while Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson stole the attention for the remainder of the offseason. Even so, second round draft rookie Elie Okobo could very well be the team’s starting point guard on opening night.

With the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Phoenix took the soon-to-be 21-year-old point guard from France. As a prospect many expected to be taken in the first round, Okobo capped off an eventful and successful night for a Suns team in need of a point guard.

However, since general manager Ryan McDonough was unable to trade for an established point guard, Okobo is now one of the frontrunners for the starting gig. He’ll face plenty of competition, and the Suns won’t stop searching for an upgrade on the trade market, but this represents quite a unique opportunity not usually afforded to rookies.

Heading into his first NBA season, what should Okobo be focusing on? Here are three tangible goals for the young Frenchman in 2018-19.
