3. Andre Drummond will have a green light from 3-point range

During the summer, rumors and videos circulated that center Andre Drummond was working on extending his range to the 3-point line. In addition to improving his game, it gives the team another shooter and another wrinkle to their new offense under head coach Dwane Casey. For his career, Drummond has made five total 3-pointers. Expect him to quickly add to that total this season.

Coach Casey made it clear on Monday that Drummond will not only be allowed to shoot from distance, but he should be doing it often. “It does open up the floor,” Casey said. “Two 3s a game, three 3s a game is not out of the realm of possibility for Andre.”

Had he averaged 2.5 3-point attempts per game last year, it would have put Drummond 11th among all Pistons. If he’s hitting them at a somewhat consistent clip, he brings a brand new element to this team’s offense.

While it’s unlikely that Drummond comes out shooting 40 percent from distance to start the season, the team doesn’t need him to do that. They spent money and draft capital this offseason to add more 3-point shooters to the roster. Drummond stretching the floor would just be a bonus. Most centers don’t operate well away from the paint, so Drummond could create some serious issues for teams if his improved distance shooting carries into the regular season.
