4. Competition with the Lakers

Don’t get me wrong, in terms of attention, the Lakers still have the Clippers beat as they’ve just landed the greatest player in the world for the next four years. Throw in the fact that their young core of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma looks to be really special as well, and the Clippers are probably going to be beat in that department once again.

However, the Clips certainly aren’t a bad team and have a fairly bright future as well. Assuming no big trades happen during the season, the team is really solid and could potentially compete for a low seed. Remember, they won 42 games last season despite multiple injuries to key players and a midseason trade that brought in a new All-Star caliber player to a faster paced system.

Lou Williams and Tobias Harris, along with consistent help from guys like DeAndre Jordan and Montrezl Harrell, played their best respective seasons and proved their capabilities as leaders of a team. Although Jordan is gone, a tenured and highly skilled Marcin Gortat will take his place. The aforementioned Beverley, Bradley, and Gallinari look to return and make a mark as well.

Any team with LeBron James is a playoff team, especially with depth around him, but the Clippers can probably manage a winning record once again. It’s not necessarily the biggest rivalry, but the two teams in L.A. are both expected to be winning teams at the same time and even if the Clippers don’t make the playoffs, they’ll still be a fairly exciting team to watch.
